Environmental Commitment

Timber

The most renewable, abundant and versatile resource in the world. When managed properly, both our environment and economy prosper. Koetter Woodworking has built a strong foundation with over 50-years experience, leading the way in environmental stewardship. At Koetter Woodworking, the definition of “green” means so much more than sustainable forestry practices. Being good stewards of the forest does not end with the harvesting of timber; it follows the entire process, from tree to finished product. We like to think that the high standards we have established in all of our processes result in products that are not just green, but a Brighter Shade of Green!

Forest Management

Koetter Woodworking is proud to participate in the Indiana Classified Forest program; one of the longest running, most successful, timber management programs in the United States. Acting in accordance with “Best Management Practices” Koetter applies responsible timber harvesting procedures on over 3,000 acres of company owned forest land. We continually invest in long-term research to develop methods and procedures aimed at increasing growth in our forests. We are dedicated to the continuing development of forest land by converting vacant properties into environmentally productive stands of timber.

Manufacturing

Over the years, Koetter Woodworking has continually invested in optimizing technologies to ensure maximum yield of our timber resources. We are vertically integrated; strategically manufacturing products for several diverse industries, allowing us to use the entire log with no fiber waste. Koetter Woodworking is committed to reducing material waste throughout our operation through recycling programs and other reuse practices. In addition, all of our dry kilns are heated using wood waste as opposed to non-renewable fossil fuels.

Education

For over 10-years, we have participated in school-to-career, project based learning programs with local high schools to help prepare students for a successful future in the work-place. In 1998, The Forest Discovery Center, an educational facility located at the Koetter Woodworking plant, was constructed with a mission to educate the public and students about responsible forest management and the impact that wood has on our everyday lives. Although the facility is no longer open for public tours it continues to be utilized for a variety of training and educational events for Koetter Woodworking dealers. Through active participation on various associations and educational forums, we stay continue to stay current on environmental issues that affect our industry.
